The life of a veterinarian is composed of providing the best preventative and wellness care as well as ensuring our clients are supported by the best emergency care possible, 24 hours per day seven days per week. Wilmington Animal Hospital understands that medical emergencies for a beloved pet can, and often do, happen outside of normal business hours. This is why we have worked to be sure our clients have access to 24/7 emergency care.
During our regular business hours, Wilmington Animal Hospital's medical staff and resources are available to help you with any emergency your pet experiences. This includes our internal medicine expertise, diagnostic tools, and surgical suite.
For emergencies that occur outside of our regular hours, we refer our clients to the following emergency facility:

When Should I Seek Emergency Care for My Pet?
The easiest answer as to whether you should seek emergency care for a pet is when you feel his or her medical condition is serious and cannot wait. However, the following general situations should help you determine if you need to seek emergency care for your pet:
- Difficulty breathing
- Acute abdominal swelling
- Electric shock
- Excessive vomiting or diarrhea
- Excessive bleeding
- Exhibits symptoms of heat stroke
- Repetitive and prolonged seizures
- Sudden onset of weakness with or without pale gums
- High or low temperature (more than 104 or less than 100 degrees)
- Unable to urinate or defecate
