Pet Wellness Exams in Wilmington
At Wilmington Animal Hospital, we believe prevention and early detection are the keys to maintaining your pet’s long term good health. We highly recommend bringing him in at least yearly for a comprehensive wellness exam. The wellness pet exam is a chance to assess your pet’s overall health, discuss any changes, and address any concerns so you can make the most informed decisions. Early diagnosis and treatment of diseases can greatly improve your pet’s chances of remaining healthy for years to come.
Your pet’s wellness exam will include a complete nose-to-tail physical inspection for any abnormalities, along with any necessary diagnostic testing. We will also check his vital signs, and examine the following:
- Heart and lungs
- Teeth and oral cavity
- Eyes and ears
- Lymph nodes, abdomen and skin
- Joints and muscles
The wellness visit may also include tests, such as:
- Bloodwork
- Screening for tick-borne disease and heartworm
- Testing for parasites
- Urinalysis
- Fecal check
Pet Wellness Services
In addition to our pet wellness exams, we also offer a variety of other services to address all of your pet’s health needs. These services provide non-invasive options for healing and pain reduction. Some of these services include:
- Nutrition counseling
- Behavioral counseling
- Preventives for parasites such as heartworms, fleas, and ticks
- Individualized vaccination protocol
Pet Vaccinations
When it comes to pet vaccinations, we take a progressive approach. We carefully evaluate each animal’s risk of exposure to infectious diseases to that we can safely limit the number of vaccines that each patient requires. This approach is designed to minimize the risk of negative reactions in young and healthy pets and to ensure the safety of sick or older pets. We offer blood testing (antibody titers) in lieu of vaccines for canine parvovirus, canine distemper virus, feline panleukopenia, and feline calicivirus.
